Over the past few days I have had a sudden influx of Twitter followers and I must admit I was excited for more than a few minutes. But then while attempting to re-follow those that followed me, I stumbled upon a couple of things
- 2 of the so called followers had the same profile picture but totally different names and followed me within a span of minutes
- Now that would just be a coincidence until I started taking a closer look at the tweets in their feed. Every single one of them were quotes
- I then looked at some of the other new followers and they were all just quotes too
This leads me to believe
Quotes are the new spam
Now don’t get me wrong, I like a good quote every now and then but when everything in your twitter feed is a quote you are either a spammer or just someone with a whole lot of issues. Either way I am not interested. I did not join Twitter for daily fix of quotes, jokes and horoscope. I had AOL and Yahoo for that back when that was a fad (and even that was cheesy back in the day). So if you are someone who plasters quotes on your Twitter feed you will be blocked no exception. And yes there is an acceptable level of quote infusion – 1 every 10 regular tweets.
